About this Module
What you will learn
This course aims to provide students (healthcare providers, people working for older persons and caregivers) with exploring the strategies for preventing and managing falls in older persons. The contents of the curriculum include understanding the physiological changes of the ageing process and identifying the risk factors of falls. Students will also be taught the various strategies to prevent falls, and learning activities that include risk assessment and exercise training are embedded in the course to ensure the sustainability of learning among students. At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Describe ageing of the population, fall as a geriatric syndrome, falls incidence and risk factors. 2. Perform screening for falls risk and intervention for fall prevention. TARGET LEARNERS: 1. Carer or caregivers of older parents 2. People working for older people 3. Older adults 4. Pre-retirees 5. Anyone who wishes to gain knowledge in ageing
What skills you will gain
At the end of this course, students should be able to perform a fall assessment using at least 1 physical test. Students also should be able to teach and monitor exercises to improve balance performances.
