MICRO-CREDENTIAL IN INTRODUCTION TO CONCRETE PRODUCTION PROCESSES IN CONSTRUCTION

About this Module

What you will learn

A micro-credential called Introduction to Concrete Production Processes in Construction helps students gain a better grasp of the concrete production process from raw ingredients to final installation. In the context of construction, it addresses batching, mixing, transporting, placing, compaction, and curing. The program stresses self-directed learning, time management, flexibility, and accountability in completing activities via non-face-to-face (non-F2F) platforms, all of which are in line with MQF personal competencies and skills. Additionally, learners will compare manufacturing techniques using fundamental critical thinking. By the end, students exhibit increased self-reliance, self-control, and knowledge of safety and quality standards in the manufacturing of concrete.

CLO3 : COMPARE the different relevant materials information used in the construction of reinforced concrete building structures through non F2F platforms. ( A4 ) PLO9
1. Introduction to Concrete
This topic introduces the fundamental concept of concrete as a key construction material, including its composition, basic behavior, and significance in modern construction, delivered through an interactive blended learning platform.

2. Concrete Properties
This topic explores the essential physical and mechanical properties of concrete, such as strength, durability, workability, and density, which influence its performance in structural applications.

3. Concrete Constituents
This section explains the main components of concrete—cement, aggregates, water, and admixtures—and their roles in determining the quality and performance of the final mix.

4. Concrete Admixtures
This topic introduces various types of chemical and mineral admixtures used to enhance concrete properties, improve workability, and achieve specific performance requirements.

5. Concrete Batching
This topic focuses on the process of measuring and proportioning concrete ingredients accurately to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with design specifications.

6. Concrete Mixing
This section discusses the methods and techniques used to mix concrete effectively, ensuring uniform distribution of materials and optimal performance.

7. Concrete Transporting
This topic explains the methods of transporting fresh concrete from the mixing point to the construction site while maintaining its quality and preventing segregation.

8. Concrete Placing
This section covers proper techniques for placing concrete into formwork to achieve desired shape, compaction, and structural integrity.

9. Concrete Compacting
This topic introduces the importance of compaction in removing air voids from fresh concrete, ensuring maximum strength and durability of the hardened material.

10. Concrete Curing
This section explains the curing process, emphasizing the importance of maintaining moisture and temperature conditions to achieve the desired strength and durability.

11. Concrete Quality Control
This topic highlights the procedures and standards used to monitor and ensure the quality of concrete throughout production and construction stages.

12. Special Concrete
This section introduces advanced types of concrete, such as high-strength, lightweight, and self-compacting concrete, designed for specific engineering applications.

13. Concrete Defects
This topic identifies common defects in concrete, such as cracks, honeycombing, and segregation, along with their causes and prevention methods.

14. Online Discussion 3 – Material (Individual)
This activity encourages students to critically discuss and reflect on concrete material topics through an online platform, enhancing understanding through collaborative learning. Tasks to be completed are Task from Week 1 until Week 13 per topic as above. Submission shall be completed in handwritten form. Please ensure that all answers are based strictly on the notes provided in the Micro Credential for each topic. Avoid using external sources such as Google. Kindly submit your work in class for compilation by the lecturer. Total of Tasks are 13.
