MICRO-CREDENTIAL IN THE ART OF THE FREE BODY DIAGRAM

About this Module

What you will learn

This module is an interactive dive into the most essential skill in physics: the Free Body Diagram. Many students struggle because they try to solve equations before they truly "see" the forces, but this module flips the script by providing a hands-on, visual approach to mastering mechanics. This module empowers students to move beyond memorizing formulas by mastering the visual language of physics, ensuring they can clearly identify every force acting on an object to build a foolproof foundation for solving motion problems.

What skills you will gain

Students will be able to identify forces, draw Free Body Diagrams, and solve basic motion problems with confidence.

 Syllabus

Introduces the concept of force as a push or pull that can change an object's motion. Students will learn the different types of forces, such as gravitational force, normal force, friction, tension, and applied force, and understand how these forces interact in everyday situations.

Explains Newton's Second Law of Motion, which states that the acceleration of an object depends on the net force acting on it and its mass. Students will learn to apply the equation F=ma to analyze and solve simple motion problems.

Focuses on the construction and interpretation of Free Body Diagrams (FBDs). Students will learn how to identify and represent all forces acting on an object using arrows and labels, providing a strong foundation for solving mechanics problems accurately.

Applies Free Body Diagrams and Newton's Second Law to objects moving or resting on horizontal surfaces. Students will examine the effects of forces such as friction, normal force, and applied force in common real-life scenarios.

Explores the analysis of objects on inclined planes. Students will learn how to resolve forces into components, identify the forces acting along and perpendicular to the slope, and solve motion problems involving ramps and angled surfaces.
