About this Course
Course Description
This course will describe, explain and discuss the basic concepts, calculations and simple applications of the mathematics used in the financial world. Its goal is to provide first exposure to actuarial students as basic knowledge before proceeding further to Advance Financial Mathematics course in the latter semesters of the Actuarial Science Program.
Course Learning Outcomes
1 ) Describe the concept of bond as an investment instrument and apply the fundamental concepts in valuing bonds and also in determining the rate of return.
2 ) Apply those concepts in calculating present and accumulated values for various streams of cash flows.
3 ) Describe the fundamental concepts and key terms of financial mathematics
4 ) Apply the key procedure of financial mathematics such as determining equivalent measures of interest, discounting, accumulating, determining yield rates, estimating the rate of return on fund and amortization.
