About this Course

Course Description

This course is a fundamental public speaking, emphasising the practical skill of public speaking. Students learn to prepare and deliver effective oral presentations, emphasising idea building, research for topics, audience analysis and general communication. In addition, the course introduces essential elements of successful presentations, including effective listening, types of speech, use of visual aids, research and evidence, ethical considerations, and techniques for building confidence in public speaking. Its goal is to prepare students for success in public speaking and to be professional and responsible communicators who can design and deliver exciting speech presentations. These public speaking skills can support the student’s future careers.

A1 : Public speaking is crucial for communication to share our ideas with the target audience. Public speaking is a communication that serves as the foundation of our society, enabling us to build connections, sway decisions, and inspire change.

Public speakers are leaders who can inspire their audience to work harder to achieve their goals. As a public speaker, your role is to influence your listeners and create an environment where everyone walks out ready to roll.

A2 : The steps to efficiently prepare a speech are:

1. Identify your purpose. Why are you speaking?
2. Know your audience. What are their aspirations, pains, …?
3. Add significance. Why should the audience care?
4. Define your clear message. What should your audience remember?
5. Establish your structure. Develop a middle part with one or two points supported by an anecdote, or story, and preferably backed up by facts and data.
6. Prepare a strong opening and a strong ending.
7. Rehearse.

A3 : To overcome your speech anxiety, you need to;

1. Be prepared- learn about the background of your audience
2. Practice - practice multiple times in front of a mirror or close friends before the actual event
3. Get comfortable in the setting -identify the physical setting of the venue
4. Visualize your success - use the visualizing technique


A4 : Make sure to rehearse your presentation on video and keep an eye on the time using clocks, watches, or timers. This will help you know exactly how much time you have left. It's important to remember that if you finish a little early but still deliver a great presentation, no one will be upset if you only take 25 minutes instead of the allotted 30 minutes.

A5 : You need to have engaging, real-life stories about conversations with actual people, not fictional tales or stories from books. Your stories should be relevant to the message that is important to your audience. Additionally, you should deliver these stories with passion, conveying the emotions as if you are reliving the experiences.
