Prosthodontics is a dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficiency in the number of teeth. Removable Prosthodontics is the branch that oversees the replacement of missing teeth or soft tissue with a removable prosthesis that may be a tooth, tissue or tooth-tissue supported. The aim of the “Complete Denture Prosthodontics: A Clinical Guide” course is to ensure that students will be able to construct a quality complete denture following the principle of construction, hence producing satisfaction to the patients. It comprises theories on online learning, application of basic knowledge as guided video, assessment, and discussion for each topic. 1 Describe the sequelae of tooth loss to the patient and factors influencing the outcome of prosthodontic treatment.
2 Outline the indications, contraindications, and limitations of complete dentures.
3 Explain important anatomical structures in complete dentures construction.
4 Identify the anatomy of supporting and limiting structures related to complete dentures.

1 Describe retention, support and stability for complete dentures.
2 Define retention, support and stability and their importance in relation to complete dentures.
3 Discuss how retention, support and stability are established in complete denture construction.

1 Organize information and assessment required in completely edentulous patients.
2 Formulate diagnosis and treatment plan based on relevant history and findings.
3 Formulate a prosthodontics treatment plan for elderly patients (considering common medical problems related to elderly patients).

1 Describe properties, delivery& manipulation, advantages& disadvantages, usage of impression materials in complete denture
2 Describe basic principles, objectives, functions, anatomical and clinical factors related to the preliminary and secondary impression.
3 State the armamentarium, selection of impression material and procedures for making a primary and secondary impression.
4 Demonstrate the correct impression techniques for different clinical situations.

1 Describe vertical and horizontal jaw relation, intercuspal position, retruded contact position, retruded axial position, freeway space and bilateral balanced occlusion.
2 Discuss the importance of recording jaw relationships.
3 Explain the important intra-oral and extra-oral biometric guides when preparing occlusal wax rims.
4 Explain the clinical stages in recording a jaw relationship for complete dentures.

1 Explain the resorption process of the residual ridge.
2 Describe the biometric guides that aid the placement of denture teeth.
3 Explain the common errors in the arrangement of artificial teeth for complete dentures.
4 Describe verification of: Centric occlusion, Centric Relation, Aesthetic & Phonetics, Denture base contour.
5 Explain the classification of sounds, normal speech mechanism and phonetics role and its importance in complete denture construction.

1 Perform the procedures for selective grinding to achieve bilateral balanced occlusion.
2 Outline the finished complete denture prior to insertion and clinical stages during complete denture insertion.
3 Identify problems that may arise during insertion, post-insertion, and errors in occlusion and describe the appropriate management.
4 Describe the denture-wearing instructions to be given to the patient.
