About this Course

Course Description

This course is a continuation from year one. The student will be taught the commercial interior design knowledge, emphasizing on the understanding and skills in the design process, space planning, lighting design, display design, shop front design, communication design, corporate image, color and material selection. Student will explore and demonstrate the idea of thematic design concept through the final project.

1 ) Determine specific concepts and theme in restaurant design. (PLO6,C4)
2 ) Display good design principle and design concept in retail design. (PLO2, P4)
3 ) Report through written and verbal on the basic design elements in scenography design. (PLO5,A3)

A1 : Scenography design deals with the principles of design for stage scenery and the fundamental techniques required for the execution and presentation of scenic designs.

The term “Scenography” includes all of the elements that contribute to establishing an atmosphere and mood for a theatrical presentation: lighting, sound, set and costume design. (https://www.merriam-webster.com)

A2 : Retail & Commercial Design emphasized on conception, development and the ultimate visual representation of the advertising message through interior design of a ‘specialist shop’.

Retail design is primarily a specialized practice of architecture and interior design, however it also incorporates elements of industrial design, graphic design, ergonomics, and advertising. A3 : Themed Restaurant explores the concept which connect the space with a particular subject or phenomena. Through appropriate understanding student will analyze and synthesis the above concept. It relates to “problem solving”.

Theme restaurants have a unifying or dominant subject or concept, and utilize architecture, decor, special effects, and other techniques, often to create exotic environments that are not normally associated with dining because they are inaccessible, no longer exist, are fictional or supernatural, or taboo.
