About this Course

To fully benefit from this course, if will be great if you have some microbiology background. Even better if you are currently working in a laboratory. Nevertheless, the course is designed for fresh undergraduates, and anybody with basic biology knowledge and a zeal to learn can join in.

Course Syllabus

Scope, definition and concepts of biosafety and biosecurity
We will start by introducing and explaining the scope and definition of biosafety, biosecurity and biorisk and relevant concepts.

Framework and guidelines
We will explore the the available framework, tools and guidelines for implementing a biorisk management system

Risk assessment
We will learn how to perform a risk assessment for biological hazards

Risk mitigation
We will discuss risk mitigation, these are measures that can be used to reduce the level of biological risks and prevents incidences from happening

Performance
We will learn why is it important to measure the performance of our biorisk management system and make improvements

Biosecurity and dual-use issues
We will take a look at biosecurity issues and research with dual use concerns
