About this Course

This course outlines the basic principles of anatomic laboratory practice. The topics are divided into the individual major services provided by the laboratory, as well as the quality and safety aspects to be adhered to in the laboratory. The course will benefit current and future lab workers, researchers and also lab service users such as medical personnel.

A1 : This course outlines the basic principles of Anatomic Pathology laboratory practice including the pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes. The course also covers quality and safety considerations while working in an anatomic pathology laboratory. At the end of this course, the participant shall have a basic understanding of the general Anatomic Pathology practice.

Q2 : Who will benefit from this course?
A2 : This course shall benefit those directly and indirectly involved in Anatomic Pathology laboratory services, either as providers of the service, or as requestors. In particular, Anatomic Pathology medical officers or pathology trainees, science officers, medical laboratory technologists and biomedical scientists will help improve basic understanding of the practice; or serve as a refresher. Physicians, surgeons, medical officers and students will also find the course helpful as Anatomic Pathology service forms an integral part of patient management. Researchers who perform laboratory work involving tissues and cells will also find the course helpful.

Q3 : Who are the providers of this course?
A3 : The course material has been prepared by several experienced anatomic pathologists and AP laboratory staff in the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratories in UiTM, who have been in AP practice for many years. Special credit to CDL's Anatomic Pathology Unit's science officers, Ts. Muhamad Idham Mohamed and Khairil Idzwan Jamaludin, for their valuable input and contribution to the course. All course providers have also been involved in both education and service, thus the content has been tailored to include key pertinent information for utmost benefit to the students enrolled in this course.
