About this Course

The purpose of this course is designed for individuals with a background in Basic Medicine to gain basic knowledge in both theories, practical clinical skills to perform laboratory service tests to help Doctors and Pathologists make diagnosis and monitoring of diseases especially in pathology chemistry. Chemical Pathology (also known as Clinical Biochemistry) deals with detecting changes in a wide range of substances (e.g. electrolytes, blood gases, enzymes, glucose, proteins, lipids, hormones, etc.) in the blood and body fluids in association with many diseases. The students are exposed to the placed on areas and problems most commonly met with in Medical laboratory practice. The reader is assumed to have a basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry and to be primarily interested in the subject of Clinical Biochemistry and Pathology from a user’s point of view rather than of a provider. Students are also given an understanding of the discipline testing of this field and the workforce involved in performing laboratory operations and diagnosing patient diseases through important general biochemical tests based on the type of specimen received. Services provided include the pre-analysis, analysis, and interpretation of biochemical changes in serum/plasma and body fluids for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring of diseases, as well as consultation for diagnostic and research purposes.
