About this Course

This course provides an overview of geographic visualization with a concentration on the theories and concepts. It is driven by the need to develop novel ways to display an ever-increasing amount of spatial data generated to address pressing environmental and social issues. The lecture emphasize on practical and theoretical implications of geographic visualization, representation and symbolization theories and methods for geographic visualization tools and display (e.g. interface design, map, animation, multimedia, web-based 3D, etc). The laboratory sessions provide hands-on experience in constructing basic geographic visualization tools with current software.
