About this Course

This course is dedicated to everyone with interest in improving their knowledge in paediatrics especially among the undergraduate medical students. LEARNING OUTCOMES: On completion of the course the participants will be able to: 1. Have a good understanding on important topics in paediatrics. 2. Test their knowledge by correctly answering the quizzes included at the end of each chapters. COURSE OBJECTIVE: The objective of this course is to generate understanding on important topics in paediatrics. This course covers the important topics in paediatrics. The topics covered are illustrated in the course synopsis below.

Course Syllabus

Normal Newborn
Introduces the definition of a healthy newborn and discusses the antenatal and post natal period, nutrition and complications during this phase.

Neonatal Jaundice
Describes the pathophysiology, aetiology, symptoms and signs, investigation, treatment and complication of neonatal jaundice.

Urinary Tract Infection
Introduces the sign and symptoms of urinary tract infection in children including the investigations and treatment

Central Nervous System Infection
Explains the terminologies, pathogenesis, aetiologies, symtoms and signs, investigations, treatment and complications of central nervous system infection.

Recurrent Abdominal Pain
Describes the definition and causes of recurrent abdominal pain. This topic also aims to discuss the approach to diagnosis and management of common non-organic causes of abdominal pain.

Growth and Development
Discusses on the definition and factors affecting growth, how to correctly measure growth, the normal growth and development in children and the abnormalities of growth and development.

Congenital Heart Disease
Describes the pathophysiology and common presentation of congenital heart diseases. This topic also illustrates the proper diagnoses and management of different types of congenital heart diseases.
