About this Course

This course is an introduction to the study of language and linguistics. It introduces students to the basic concepts, principles and theories in language and linguistics. It provides some background information on the origins of language, differences between animal and human language, language acquisition / learning and linguistics matters that include phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Blended approach to teaching and learning is adopted, combining lectures, hands-on activities, discussion, group work and technology. Learning outcomes are measured by formative assessments that include online assessments, presentation and a project report.
