About this Course

This course focuses on the rules of statute, common law and equity governing the ownership and use of real property, i.e. land and buildings. It deals primarily with situations involving private ownership of lands: the rights and duties thereby enjoyed and owed by a private owner over the land in his/her right and vis-a-vis his/her neighbours, and the methods where land may be transferred. Whereas the course essentially provides grounding in the general principles of private property law, it also forms a basis for further study in the specialised fields of planning, landlord and tenant, and conveyancing. This course promotes the development of critical thinking and scientific skills, values, ethics and professionalism in the area of Land Law.
