About this Course

The MOOC Introductory Mandarin II course serves as a supplementary online material to support UiTM Introductory Mandarin II (TMC451) course. This course is intended for students who have no background in Mandarin or any character-based language who have passed the Introductory Mandarin I (TMC401) or have attended MOOC Introductory Mandarin I. The course will emphasize mostly on developing participants’ oral communication skills in situational contexts via self-pace learning. The design of the MOOC Introductory Mandarin II course adheres to the e-pedagogy, instructional design and the HSK 1 and HSK 2 test standard that is widely referred to in the teaching and learning of Mandarin language. This course consists of 6 chapters. Each chapter consists of video teaching, situational dialogues and some activities involving listening, reading and writing skills. The teaching materials and exercises are presented through the multimodal approach. With multimedia elements such as audio, video, text, animation and song, the learners learn how to make an appointment, talk about learning, do daily routine such as buying things, and ordering foods. They also learn about Malaysian festivals. In this MOOC course, students are expected to take part in all language activities conducted via online MOOC to ensure their success in attaining the elementary level proficiency. Students will also be introduced to the Hanyu Pinyin system, Chinese characters and Chinese culture in this MOOC course.
