Course Description
The course introduces students to theories, methods, material development and basic principles in the teaching of English as a Second Language. Discussions are geared towards the development of English Language Teaching methodology from the historical perspective of language teaching to the current approaches, focusing on listening, speaking and grammar. The course comprises of three main parts: 1) methodological perspectives and approaches in ESL; 2) materials for teaching listening, speaking and grammar; and 3) instruments for assessing listening, speaking and grammar.
Course Learning Outcomes
1 ) Students will demonstrate their ability to develop relevant classroom tasks for the teaching listening, speaking or grammar.
2 ) Students will apply their theoretical knowledge in teaching listening, speaking and grammar to answer the test questions.
3 ) Students will demonstrate their ability to evaluate appropriate instruments for assessing listening, speaking and grammar.
